Laggan Biltong is a family-run business that my wife and I proudly operate here in the United States. Our story begins in Zimbabwe, where we were both born (back when it was still Rhodesia), before moving to South Africa in 1981. Fast forward over 40 years, and we embarked on a new adventure in the US.
The name “Laggan” comes from the farm I grew up on in Zimbabwe. My father, a South African immigrant to Zimbabwe, worked the land, farming tobacco, maize, and dairy cattle. Growing up, I watched my family make batch after batch of traditional beef biltong—the "South African way." Those memories stayed with me, shaping my love for biltong.
When we moved to the US, I quickly realized just how much I missed it. Nothing here could compare, so I decided to start making my own. Before long, others began to love it too, and Laggan Biltong was born.
At Laggan, we craft every batch by hand, using only the finest ingredients and a spice mix inspired by my family’s traditional recipe. Every order is made in small batches and tailored to your preferences. My goal has always been to recreate the taste of biltong from your favorite butcher back home—that unmistakable, authentic flavor I missed so much.
