What is Biltong?

New to Biltong?

Here's everything you need to know about this delicious South African snack!

1. What is biltong?

Biltong is a classic South African meat snack, typically made with beef, soaked in vinegar and spices, then air-dried for up to 5 days. Biltong's distinct taste and texture is what makes meat lovers crave it.

"Is it like Jerky?"

No. Biltong is usually more tender and natural-tasting (and healthier) than jerky because it's made with less sugar and preservatives than jerky and isn't cooked or smoked.

2. How is Laggan Biltong made?

The process begins with sourcing high-quality cuts of beef, which are sliced into strips and marinated in a blend of vinegar and authentic South African spices. This marinade infuses the meat with its distinctive flavor.

Once seasoned, the strips dried in a cool, well-ventilated space and in specialized biltong drying cabinets. This careful drying process ensures the meat retains its unique taste and texture.

3. How do you eat biltong?

Biltong sticks and ready-cut biltong are perfect for snacking straight from the bag, while uncut biltong slabs are best sliced into your bite-sized chunks using a sharp knife or a biltong cutter.

Biltong is a great on-the-go snack on its own, but it's also a versatile addition to snack platters, salads, or sandwiches, bringing a bold, savory beef flavor to every bite.
